Cooking & Fun at Cedar Crest Lodge

My name is Laura and I love food. There, I’ve said typed it for all the world to read. For as long as I can remember, food has been an integral part of my life. When I was young, I would climb up on a chair and remove my Mom’s “The New Good Housekeeping Cookbook” (1963 edition) from the shelf and spend the day flipping through the pages and reading recipes. Baking soon followed in the form of cookies, brownies and cakes. By Junior High I was making Chicken Cacciatore and various other “Italian” dishes. During that stage, I secretly wished I was Italian. If only . . . how much better my food would have tasted, right?

When I was 14 I traveled to Germany with my Aunt and Uncle. I was so hoping we could just cross over into Italy. After all, what’s one little country and something called the Alps in between the two?! Fortunately, many years later after meeting my husband to-be, we realized we both had Italy on our bucket list. So, after marriage, kids, starting our business, and, well . . . life; finally, in 2016, we made it! Now, the best part for me was the 6-night cooking program we experienced in the Roman countryside. We didn’t make Chicken Cacciatore, but it was pretty amazing!

In the early years of owning Cedar Crest Lodge, occasionally we would offer cooking classes. After our trip to Italy, we HAD to share our wonderful experience with our own guests. A great time was had by all and it encouraged us to make more cooking classes available here at the lodge starting in 2017. Although we are not formally trained, our combined experience and attention to detail provide a fun, educational, and filling experience! Please call 913-352-6533 to ask about our 2017 class offering. Make a weekend out of it and book a getaway with your loved one – you’ll be treated to farm-fresh breakfasts & cozy evenings by the fire!
