Nestled within the trees and rolling hills that define our grounds, you will find a favorite spot among our colorful perennial gardens.  Spring offers a wonderful view of our beautiful bulbs: tulips, hyacinth, daffodils, allium, and iris.  The bright yellow forsythia, eastern red buds, azalea, and lilacs complement the ensemble.  Spring also brings the hummingbirds to our area to enjoy all the beautiful flowers!

Summer bursts forth with perennial favorites:  coneflowers, roses, lavender, daylilies, hollyhocks, butterfly weed, clematis, Russian sage, and many more.  In fact, we have over 11,000 feet of garden space for your enjoyment! The local wildlife is enjoying our gardens as well;  we have recently received certification as an Official National Wildlife Habitat.

So that we don't disturb the appearance of the gardens surrounding the house, we have planted an exclusive cutting garden to provide fresh-cut flowers throughout the lodge for your pleasure.

Our newest vegetable garden provides home-grown produce for your culinary enjoyment.  There you will find lettuces, spinach, radishes, carrots, onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, peas, beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, and our asparagus bed.  Alongside the vegetable garden we have developed the area for fresh juicy berries:  blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries (including the coveted golden raspberry).  We love to use fresh berries in our breakfasts and desserts!

Next to the house you will find our herb garden where we cultivate our favorites: basil, thyme, dill, fennel, cilantro, sage, rosemary, chives, and oregano.  The nearby expanding strawberry patch boasts tantalizing red berries.  We strive to provide you with as much home-grown organic produce as possible.  Our motto is “fresh is best."  So when you're enjoying your romantic “dinner for two," know that we take pride in the food we serve you.

This expanse of gardens would be next to impossible if it weren't for our very talented and hard-working gardener, Lisa K. Sims.  Lisa started with us in the spring of 2008 and has since developed several new garden areas and maintains existing ones.  That is no small feat with this size of property!  Lisa even managed to complete her Master Gardener course with flying colors while regularly working hard each day!  Say hello to “kerchief girl” while you're here and let her know what a good job she is doing.

Once you have enjoyed our gardens, you can continue your walk or bike ride on our trails through thickly-wooded terrain and over open fields with lots of cedars.  You will also find many ponds - 13 to be exact (6 of them stocked).  So if fishing is your passion, bring your poles!  We only ask that you fish for sport and release the fish after they are caught.

Enjoy!
